As a result, many people who have genital warts usually keep it to themselves, a reason why this disease is so prevalent. Some people believe that if they used a condom during sex, they are safe from getting genital warts. The problem with this belief is that since genital warts may also occur in other areas aside from the genitals, the areas unprotected by the condom could still be exposed to the warts. As long as there is skin-to-skin contact with the infected areas, you are prone to catch the disease.

The only way to avoid getting genial warts is to abstain from sex and other sexual activities completely. If you do have protected sex, you should be aware that you could still develop genital warts, particularly because the incubation period of the disease is anywhere between two and nine months. Meaning, you may not even be aware that you have genital warts and continue to have sex with other people and infect them unconsciously.
